Working With Tarot ....

I realize the latest tweets have been about the rise in trend of working with Tarot cards....  There has been no real rise in the use, we are just hearing more about it,  because people have found an inner strength to Talk about it and use Social media to share the new decks being created.. yes, maybe there are a lot more artists and authors creating decks and books, wanting to develop tools that were not available when they were learning, and I think that is brilliant to get more information, more choices out there to the world... demystifying Tarot brings it into the mainstream... realizing Tarot are artwork created by artists with symbols and imagery to tell a story. It allows a reader to open themselves up to understanding what the artist is conveying through symbols, colour, characters etc...
You do  not have to be incredibly psychic and knowledgeable about the Occult or any particular faith or religion to read Tarot, with basic understanding of the 78 cards in a Tarot Deck  ....  You can begin your journey into using Tarot either to gain insight into the past actions, or present situation but also what may lie ahead on your path... Tarot can be predictive, depending on your current choices... but also it can allow you make different choices if you want to heed the warning...

You find a Huge variety of readers that choose to read tarot very differently from others, They include other tools of Divination in their practice. Maybe they  use tarot for specific type of questions... Each Reader will have their own specialty....  There is no one way to read tarot and I never to presume to speculate on what is right or wrong - I can only tell you what works for me and my own personal beliefs, this comes down to my own personal truth within reading tarot ...

You May have read My variety of Posts related to Tarot  ...

or My thoughts in How One should feel after a Reading ...

Maybe you read the post  that talks about the Different Myths and Legends re tarot or  Whether working with Tarot is the Devils Work ?

I have created a variety of posts to share my thoughts and opinions re Tarot ....   So you can make up your own mind in what resonates and what does not .....

For me Tarot is a Sacred Tool ,  Because I choose to treat it with value, with respect ... It is a Tool that allows me to open myself up, it is a trigger, a key to say I am working with my Higher Self or for me My Guides to gather information for myself and others that are of value to enable empowerment..
For me when I work with my cards I choose not to have had any alcohol or any other substance that may impair my judgement on any level. I choose to have incense and tealight lit. I choose to have my crystals with me .  I choose to ask to work with my Guides,  and Angels, Archangels and Ascended Masters.. I also may ask to work with selected Gods and Goddesses.... depending on the Decks I may choose to work with at the time ....  These are choices and are not set in concrete ..

Like when I am reading for a Client face to face, there are times I choose to let a client shuffle and draw from the cards or I may shuffle and draw from the cards.. Nothing is set to rules ... really there are no rules except the ones we create for ourselves re TAROT....

Cleansing the Cards
I do not mean with soap and water - water and cards do not mix ...
You can or maybe you don't , totally up to you .

. Knock on your cards 3 times before shuffling, shifts the energy through the cards ...

Wave your cards over incense three times - cleanse with White sage or a purification incense ...

Lay a Clear Quartz crystal over the deck  and leave overnight or in between readings ...

Put them in a safe place on the windowsill to Have the Moonlight touch them .... giving them Lunar Energies from the Moon Goddess Selene .... ( or another Goddess that works with the Moonlight)
For me HeKate .... Was valuable when I began working with her Energies on my Path of Witchcraft , moving from Vesta (Roman Goddess of the Fire )  ... as my path shifted ...

Sit them besides a little dish of sea or Himalayan Salt  (not on the salt - cards and salt do not mix )  but close by on a table ....

There may be other Rituals you use to Cleanse and Consecrate your decks ...

To keep your decks safe when not in use ...

There are so many reasons to keep you decks protected when not in use ...
There are many beliefs related to these thoughts too....
Whether you do them for any reason or not is totally up to you..

I keep my decks protected because I want to continue to use them for a long time ...
out of respect and a sense of sacredness for my tools ...

I keep them in the Boxes they come in when the boxes are sturdy and a lift off lid...
or I keep them in organza or material bags with drawstring to keep them closed ...
The other thoughts people have a Silk Scarves (if possible ) or a piece of Cotton material wrapped and placed in specific made boxes for tarot , Wooden,  resin,  Silver type boxes with a variety of designs (seen some amazing boxes throughout Twitter or Instagram ...

Some people keep them on specific bookshelves or in a draw maybe in a large storage box of some sort , there really is no right or wrong way to store your decks - The Choice is yours ...

Space- Where do you read Tarot
There is only value   to how you choose to read Tarot ....

There is no right or wrong place to read tarot ...
I know some read in Pubs, or at large events, others prefer cafe's or much smaller events ...
Some work in a back room of a store or even in an office type place...

Others create an office space at home... or prepare a space within a lounge or dining room, even a kitchen that they can use to read Tarot for clients - face to face ...
or even by Email ...  or by Skype or other Social media ....

I have seem people read tarot anywhere including a park on the blanket on the grass or at the beach on a towel ... It seems we are only limited by the choices we make in where we will read Tarot ..

For me creating a space for me as included a cloth of some sort, my tealight holder (Changed over time)   incense, crystals (always changing) .. Cleansing my space with White sage or something similar ...  I have read at Psychic Fairs, expos, markets, backs of  different types of stores including my own Store in town ... (Face to Face Readings )  for Emails now I have set up my own Sacred Space I use when doing a Tarot Reading for a client  at home ....

Expanding Your Knowledge with Tarot

Some may choose only to understand the basic meanings the keywords and leave it at That  to do readings,   others may choose to expand their understanding of each card to include more information about the card through other's thoughts and opinions... maybe they choose to work with the card intuitively, using the image of the card to expand the keywords and meanings ...

There may be other readers who choose to include Kabbalah (Tree of Life) and Hebrew Correspondences to each of the cards....  maybe you may come across a reader that chooses to work more deeply with Astrology within a Tarot Reading ...

There is no right or wrong way to expand your knowledge when working with Tarot, but know that is takes a long time of working with Tarot to understand how the cards combine to make a reading comprehensible to a Client (Querant) ....  There are so many ways a card can share it's information to you as the reader for you to interpret so the Querant can understand the message ...

This is not a quick journey to the end, but one that takes time, commitment and study ....

Even after 20+ years I feel I have only scratched the surface .... as I continue to explore  tarot as a Tarotologist ..

For me personally : I took my time learning Tarot before I started reading for friends, then slowly over the years I finally took the plunge to read at an Expo  charging $5 quick reads to get my practice in ... After some time  I then grew to charging $20  a reading  and then $30  for 30 minute readings  (these are all NZ prices ) before charging for an hour reading of $60   to now $80  .. To being comfortable to being able to share information that was not waffling for an hour was quite a task at the beginning - but eventually with practice it was possible ....  I began with quick reads, and built over time to 15 min and 30 minute readings before finally  working my way to doing tarot readings for 60 minutes ....

I think the biggest thing is when you are doing a reading, being able to look at the cards, glance and communicate clearly the message without umming and arrhing all the time.. Being able to talk about the cards as individuals and what they mean as combinations... in overall spreads and layouts..... Knowing layouts, card positions and what the cards mean in that context has been really important also ...  Answer the client's question- first .. then add layers of other important messages ... has also been of value to my way of expanding my knowledge of tarot ...

Watching Youtube Vids, checking out other sites, blogs, posts on twitter and Instagram have also helped me develop my readings and continue to add new layers to my understanding of the cards ...

Wow I realize I may have rambled a bit with my thoughts and opinions ....

This is my way I choose to work with Tarot, I have shared other thoughts that you may find useful ...

Enjoy your Tarot Journey ... and Take care of self .... (Another post to be added )
