How Long Before I can Read the Tarot Cards?
This topic is very subjective to many aspects of your journey....
How committed are you to learning and understand Tarot?
Why do You want to learn tarot? What is your intention?
Which deck did you purchase?
Do you have any Tarot apps or Tarot Software that you are using?
Are you learning from the Little White Book That came with the deck, or a Guidebook?
Are you looking at other books, sites, Youtube Channel that teaches Tarot?
Are you going to a Workshop, Course, studying by email with someone else?
Do you have a Journal that you write everything in related to Tarot?
What were your answers? Write them down and reflect on what they mean to you?
I have been reading Tarot for over 20+ years and had been reading for friends and others for a few years before I was invited to take part in a Healthy Living Expo .. Psychic fairs etc..... I started off with Charging a very small amount doing Five card readings ... Keeping it very simple ... I did over 35 Readings in just two days... and found the clients to be very happy with the readings.... I kept doing Expos, Fairs etc... for a few years, occasionally doing readings from home for people .and finally did some readings from a back of a store in town .. offering 20 minute readings to build up my clientele and to keep on practicing ...I had to pay a fee so covered my fee through charging an amount that covered my costs ... I practiced online in groups and learnt so much from others .....Finally I created my physical reality and started a store in town ... but realized after 5 years of working 7 days a week and doing 7 hr days ... I burnt myself out .... It can be very tiring when you are constantly giving to others and forget about self on many levels....
So How long before You can read tarot .... Totally depends on your commitment ...
Firstly - Understand the basic keywords for the Major Arcana, and practice and practice the keywords and how you can explain that in depth to someone else .. That may take a few days or even a week to start to get it on some level .... Now begin with a Suit .... Do the same thing ... That could take a week .. Then you want to understand them together .... and at the same time add another suit ... Doing a variety of exercises in learning the cards further ... So over all as you have the Major Arcana and four suits to learn - numbers 1-10 plus the four court cards .... You could look at maybe a couple of months to get a basic understanding on some of the cards, without looking at the LWB or your notes ...Then look at the cards intuitively, develop your knowledge about each card, looking at the reference to the suit, the numbers, the colours and any symbols in the cards ....
You may find yourself doing daily reads for self ... also a weekly or a monthly spread ... be confident in how you explain the reading out loud... pretend you are talking to someone else ...
Practice on readings for friends and family ... Practice, practice and practice.. Join a Group or a forum online and practice your readings there... practice reading on a video for Instagram, or Twitter or maybe a another social site...
Maybe a year has passed and finally you may be starting to feel a bit more comfortable, confident doing readings for others .... as you continue to learn and expand your knowledge ... Maybe you have a second deck by now and have found yourself learning more about what the cards can mean in reading.... You can speak confidently to others about each card and what they mean overall in a reading, keeping in context with the Querant's Question... You are confident in reading with 5-10 cards within a spread. You know the cards as individuals but also in combinations...
Moving through your Second year and you may find yourself in an opportunity to do an expo, or a fair or some sort, a street market, an opportunity to read for strangers ... keeping your fees appropriate to your knowledge, and experience with Tarot ..... another year if learning and practicing Tarot....
Moving through into your Third Year of learning Tarot ... and finding yourself much more confident in doing a reading you may find yourself starting off with doing Video Readings on Skype or on Social Media Live.... Maybe even working in a store, paying the Store owner a fee for renting a backroom .... There are many opportunities to develop within self ..... This is important to remember to that this is all a learning journey as you develop and manifest experiences ....as you learn all you can about Tarot and each individual card ....
So now you find your deck collection has grown to include other decks including Oracle or Lenormand, maybe even Runes or something else .... be careful you don't get too over whelmed .. remember to keep using your Tarot cards daily.... As you begin your Fourth year of learning Tarot .... be careful you don't get complacent in your meanings.... look at ways to develop further with Tarot ....Create your own deck ... (if you can draw or use a Art software program) .... to find new ways at looking at each card .....
How Long before your read Tarot? You never stop learning ... You never become an expert .... Always a student .... You may have a basic understanding .... even after 20+ years .... I am still learning and discovering something new about each card .... ...
It takes a long time to become truly confident when reading tarot, especially for others ... knowing the cards always tell the truth but how we interpret will make a difference ... This will make a difference between a reader who can read Tarot and someone who truly assists others make empowering choices on their own journey .... Is Reading Tarot about the Reader or about being the best you can by ensuring your Clients walk away empowered by the choices they make in their life?
Blessed Be!
